Product Details

  • Description

The Bond-It Backer Rod 15mm x 500m Coil is a closed-cell polyethylene foam backing rod designed to support correct joint design and enhance sealant performance. Supplied in a high-yield 500-metre coil, it is ideal for professional and large-scale applications where efficiency and consistency are key.

Installed behind sealant joints, the backer rod controls sealant depth and prevents three-sided adhesion, allowing the sealant to move correctly and reducing stress within the joint. The 15mm diameter makes it suitable for medium-width joints commonly found in construction, glazing, and general sealing applications.

    Typical Applications

    • Expansion and movement joints

    • Glazing and façade sealing

    • Construction and building joints

    • Joint preparation for silicone, PU, and hybrid sealants

    • Large-scale sealing projects

    Why Use a Backer Rod?

    Using a backer rod:

    • Reduces sealant usage and waste

    • Ensures correct depth-to-width ratio

    • Improves sealant durability and lifespan

    • Helps prevent cracking and adhesion failure

Backer rod is an essential component of professional joint design.

  • Benefits

    • 15mm diameter x 500m coil – ideal for high-volume trade use
    • Closed-cell polyethylene foam resists moisture absorption
    • Controls sealant depth for correct joint geometry
    • Prevents three-sided adhesion and premature joint failure
    • Improves sealant flexibility and movement accommodation
    • Lightweight, flexible, and easy to cut on site

  • How to Apply

    1. Measure the joint width to select the correct backer rod size
    2. Cut the backer rod to length using a sharp knife or scissors
    3. Press the backer rod firmly into the joint to the required depth
    4. Ensure the rod sits evenly without stretching or compressing excessively
    5. Apply sealant over the backer rod, tooling as required
