Description
Dowsil 784 is a high-quality sanitary silicone sealant designed for sealing joints in kitchens, bathrooms, and other humid interior areas. Formulated with acetoxy-cure technology and a built-in fungicide, it provides long-lasting protection against mould and mildew, helping to maintain a clean, hygienic appearance over time. It bonds strongly to most non-porous surfaces including glass, ceramics, enamel, and glazed tiles, creating a durable, watertight seal that withstands daily exposure to water and cleaning agents. The smooth, glossy finish of Dowsil 784 makes it ideal for sealing around baths, sinks, showers, and splashbacks.
Fast-curing and easy to apply, it remains permanently flexible and won’t crack or peel under movement — ensuring reliable performance and a clean finish in both domestic and professional settings. Data sheet.

How to Apply
1. Surface Preparation
- Non-porous substrates (glass, enamel, ceramics): Clean thoroughly with Dowsil R-40 Universal Cleaner or a similar solvent on a lint-free cloth; wipe dry immediately.
- Porous materials (if used): Mechanically clean to remove loose particles or dust. Ensure all surfaces are dry, clean, and free of old sealant or grease.
2. Masking - Mask both sides of the joint with tape to ensure a neat edge and prevent sealant spread.
3. Application - Cut the nozzle to suit the joint width and apply Dowsil 784 in a smooth, continuous bead using a caulking gun. Maintain steady pressure and avoid trapping air.
4. Tooling - Tool the bead immediately to ensure full contact with both joint sides and to create a smooth, concave profile. Remove masking tape before skin formation.
5. Curing
- Skin-over time: ≈ 10–15 minutes
- Full cure: 24 hours for 2–3 mm joint depth (longer for thicker applications)
Protect the sealant from water or cleaning agents during curing.
6. Joint Design Tips
- Keep a 2 : 1 width-to-depth ratio for best performance.
- Minimum joint width: 6 mm.
- Use a backer rod or bond-breaker tape to prevent three-sided adhesion where needed.
