Description
Dowsil 786 is a professional-grade sanitary silicone sealant engineered for high-moisture environments that demand superior mould resistance and long-term durability. Its high-modulus acetoxy formulation provides exceptional adhesion to non-porous materials such as glass, ceramic tiles, and enamel, making it ideal for sealing baths, sinks, showers, and other sanitary fittings. Infused with an advanced fungicide additive, Dowsil 786 offers long-lasting protection against mould and mildew, ensuring a hygienic, easy-to-clean finish.
The smooth, glossy appearance and excellent resistance to cleaning agents make it a preferred choice in both domestic and commercial wet areas — including bathrooms, kitchens, hospitals, and food preparation zones. Fast-curing and highly elastic, it delivers a reliable, watertight seal that stands up to constant exposure to water, steam, and detergents.
Benefits
- High-performance acetoxy-cure silicone for sanitary and wet-area sealing
- Contains advanced fungicide to resist mould, mildew, and bacterial growth
- Exceptional adhesion to ceramics, glass, and non-porous surfaces
- Retains flexibility and gloss finish even in constant moisture conditions
- Ideal for bathrooms, kitchens, hospitals, and clean environments
How to Apply
1. Surface Preparation
- Non-porous substrates (e.g. glass, enamel, ceramics): Clean thoroughly using Dowsil R-40 Universal Cleaner or a suitable solvent on a lint-free cloth; wipe dry immediately.
- Porous substrates (if present): Mechanically clean to remove dust, loose material, and contaminants. Ensure surfaces are sound, dry, and free from grease or soap residue.
2. Masking - Mask both sides of the joint to create clean, straight lines and prevent spreading beyond the seal area.
3. Application - Cut the nozzle to the desired bead size. Apply a continuous, even bead of Dowsil 786 using a caulking gun. Maintain steady pressure and ensure full contact with both joint surfaces.
4. Tooling - Tool the bead immediately after gunning using a spatula or suitable tool, smoothing the surface to a clean finish. Remove masking tape before the sealant skins.
5. Curing
- Skin time: approx. 10–15 minutes
- Full cure: ~24 hours for 2–3 mm joints (longer for deep sections)
Avoid water exposure during curing.
6. Joint Design Tips
- Maintain a 2 : 1 width-to-depth ratio for optimal performance.
- Minimum joint width: 6 mm.
- Use a backer rod to control depth and prevent three-sided adhesion.
