Description
Dowsil 798 is a high-performance, food-safe silicone sealant formulated for use in hygienic and temperature-sensitive environments.
Its neutral-cure chemistry provides excellent adhesion to a wide range of substrates including glass, aluminium, and stainless steel — without corroding metals or emitting strong odours during application.
Once fully cured, Dowsil 798 is non-toxic and compliant for use in food preparation areas, cleanrooms, laboratories, hospitals, and cold storage facilities.
It resists fungal and bacterial growth while maintaining long-term elasticity, even under constant moisture or temperature changes.
Designed for professional use where hygiene and durability are critical, Dowsil 798 delivers a smooth, easy-to-clean seal that withstands rigorous wash-down routines and chemical cleaning agents — providing long-lasting performance in sterile or food-safe applications.

Benefits
- Neutral-cure silicone designed for hygienic and temperature-controlled environments
- Certified food-safe once cured — ideal for kitchens, cold stores, and cleanrooms
- Excellent adhesion to glass, aluminium, and stainless steel
- Resistant to fungus, bacteria, and cleaning chemicals
- Maintains flexibility and seal integrity in cold or humid conditions
How to Apply
1. Surface Preparation
- Non-porous substrates (stainless steel, glass, aluminium): Wipe using Dowsil R-40 Universal Cleaner or an equivalent solvent on a lint-free cloth; wipe dry immediately.
- Porous materials (concrete, brick, masonry): Mechanically clean to remove dust, grease, and loose particles.
Surfaces must be sound, clean, and completely dry.
2. Masking - Apply masking tape along the edges of the joint to create neat, hygienic lines and avoid spread onto surrounding surfaces.
3. Application - Cut the nozzle to the appropriate bead size. Apply Dowsil 798 evenly and continuously using a manual or pneumatic gun. Ensure full contact with both joint surfaces.
4. Tooling - Tool immediately after application to compact the sealant and produce a smooth, easy-to-clean finish. Remove masking tape before skin forms.
5. Curing
- Skin time: approx. 20–30 minutes
- Full cure: 24–48 hours depending on joint depth, humidity, and temperature
Avoid washing or sanitising the area until full cure is achieved.
6. Joint Design Tips
- Maintain a 2 : 1 width-to-depth ratio for flexibility and strength.
- Minimum joint width 6 mm.
- Use a backer rod or bond-breaker tape to prevent three-sided adhesion.
