    • Description

Dowsil 895 is a premium structural glazing silicone sealant engineered for bonding glass, metal, and façade elements in curtain wall and structural glazing applications. Its neutral-cure formulation provides outstanding adhesion and long-term strength, allowing the transfer of high loads while maintaining flexibility and weather resistance.

Ideal for glass-to-aluminium assemblies, insulating glass units (IGUs), and structural bonding, Dowsil 895 combines excellent UV and ozone resistance with proven performance under wind and thermal stresses. Once cured, it forms a durable elastomeric joint that maintains adhesion under dynamic movement and vibration. Independently tested and approved to ETAG 002 and ASTM C1184, Dowsil 895 delivers trusted reliability in critical architectural glazing applications — making it the go-to choice for façade engineers, specifiers, and installers demanding structural integrity with clean, seamless aesthetics.

    • Benefits

      • High-strength neutral-cure silicone for structural glazing and bonding glass façades
      • Excellent adhesion to glass, anodised aluminium, and coated metals
      • Designed for structural glazing, curtain walling, and insulating glass units (IGUs)
      • Proven long-term durability under UV, weathering, and temperature extremes
      • Certified to ETAG 002 / ASTM C1184 structural silicone standards
    • How to Apply

      1. Surface Preparation

      • Clean glass, metal, and coated substrates using a compatible solvent such as Dowsil R-40 Universal Cleaner on a lint-free cloth.
      • Ensure all surfaces are dry, dust-free, and free of oil, release agents, or other contaminants.
      • Allow solvents to flash off completely before applying the sealant.

      2. Primer Use - In some glazing systems, a primer may be required to achieve optimal adhesion — always perform a preliminary adhesion test or follow system supplier recommendations.

      3. Masking - Apply masking tape to joint edges for neat lines and to prevent smearing.

      4. Application - Cut the nozzle to match joint width. Apply Dowsil 895 using a pneumatic or manual gun in a continuous, even bead. Ensure full wetting of both substrates. Avoid trapping air bubbles.

      5. Tooling - Tool immediately after application to compress the sealant into the joint and achieve a smooth, uniform profile.

      6. Curing

      • Skin time: ~50 minutes
      • Full cure: approximately 7–14 days depending on joint thickness, temperature, and humidity.

Do not move or stress bonded units until full cure has developed.

      7. Joint Design Tips

      • Maintain joint dimensions as per system engineering design.
      • Use a backer rod or bond-breaker tape to prevent three-sided adhesion.
      • Ensure adequate sealant bite per design loads (typically ≥6 mm)
